Real Groovy's out and JB Hi-Fi's in

JB Hi-Fi Staff Required

With the news that Real Groovy has gone into receivership I’m welcoming the arrival of JB Hi-Fi with open arms. Real Groovy has been great for imports, second hand CDs, and vinyl; but pricing on the popular music they stock is expensive compared to places like The Warehouse, often costing an extra $10.

I’ve been waiting for JB Hi-Fi to come after I first visited one of their stores in Auckland last year and scored some imported CDs at a great price. The site is the recently closed LV Martin and Son in the BNZ Tower in Wellington. They are currently advertising for ALL staff, so if you’d like to work at JB Hi-Fi pop over to their website and fill out an application form.

Oh that is saaaaaaaaaaad. I had just found a DVD I wanted from Real Groovy.
Is JB’s going to the exact same building as Real Groovy? That’ll be easier for me to find next time I’m in the city.

Ah, no. The site is the recently closed LV Martin and Son in the BNZ Tower in Wellington. :]

Real Groovy will probably be open for a while yet, they’re still trying to get it out of receivership and keep it going but you won’t be able to get anything on credit or with vouchers. Doubt they’ll be getting any new stock in.

Yay! The boy wants me to go work there so I can get staff discounts on electronics. lol.

JB Hi-Fi is the best. We have one on the coast here and they stock so much more stuff than other music shops, and also a lot more underground-type music. Also they’re heaps cheaper than most other places. Yaaaaaayyy :D

Come on you guys. Real Groovy is an amazing store. You can spend hours in there searching for stuff that there’s no hope in hell of finding anywhere else. And you talk about cheaper prices elsewhere? That’s because these other companies are huge corporations who buy by the pallet and get massive discounts. Groovy can’t do that because they’re an independant. You can’t trade in your old crap at JB Hifi. You can’t buy shirts or books or merchandise at JB Hifi or The Warehouse. Real Groovy is a NZ institution that you should be proud of. You should support it or be faced with the prospect of every music store being essentially the same – Top 20 and basic boring back catalogue.

@ The Dude – I completely agree. I love Real Groovy and have bought many things from them. It is really unfortunate that they’ve hit hard times and I hope they can manage to get back to financial health. But, I’m also happy that JB Hi-Fi is coming, I found stuff in there that I couldn’t find in Real Groovy, at prices cheaper than I could get it ordered in for me by Real Groovy.
The good thing about JB Hi-Fi is that they stock a lot of imports at decent prices but they also have top 20 stuff really cheap.

JB Hi-Fi also stocks electronics unlike Real Groovy so that aspect will be good too.
