As time goes by most bloggers choose to move to a self hosted website for the freedom from restrictions it offers. But, without the help of your best nerdy friend it can seem daunting. As long as you follow his criteria – you don’t already own the domain your site is going on, you want to use wordpress, you can’t already have hosting, and you’re willing to pay for 1 year of hosting straight up (one year including the domain name is only $80-$90) – then he’ll set one up for you for $39.
