Pick N Mix – Week Starting 29 June 2009
- Mmmmm breakfast. Pretty, pretty breakfast.
- Rollasole seems like such a logical idea. I can’t believe no one thought of it earlier. If you’re a UK clubber with sore feet after a night in heels, you don’t have to walk home in bare feet on the scummy pavement any longer. Just get some rollasoles!
- Diva, a large retailer of cheap jewellery based mainly in the malls of Australia and New Zealand were recently found to be blatantly ripping off designs from Shana Logic, among other artists. Copying the designs right down to colours and beading. Not good.
Shana just announced that she spoke to the CEO of DCK Ply Ltd (they own of Diva) and they may be coming to a resolution and finding a way to make sure this never ever happens again! - Mmm smell the reason.
- I haven’t seen the second Transformers movie yet, so I can’t vouch for the validity of Charlie’s statement that it’s Michael Bay’s first art movie (lol).
- Amazing street art from Bristol. My favourite is the girl meets boy stencil.
- Emma Watson has grown from a typical dorky looking kid to a gorgeous 19 year old young woman who is widely regarded as a fashion icon. Emma is a Teen Vogue cover girl once again and the photos are amazing. You can also see her fashion timeline, including a pic from 2001 (terrible!).
- Uber geeks don’t have the time to shower.
- Some people just have the knack to photographing food. These pancake photos make me want to eat my screen!
- Pacman gets a fright when he joins twitter.

I was just in Diva and saw a lot of those designs I can’t believe they are just stealing them off artists, makes me think who else they are been stealing previous designs off, definitely going to make me think twice about buying from them

I am still laughing about lego sushi! Put two of my favourite things together and you’ve got constipation!

i find it odd that this particular artist made a fuss about diva. they’ve been blatently copying everyone and anyone’s designs since they opened from givenchy to nicole richie’shouse ofharlow.
love buffy v. edward. i knew she’d win!

Really? I don’t find it odd at all, and I think making a fuss over this has bought it to the attention of a lot of people that never realised. Me for instance.
Making a design based on someone else’s work is one thing, but copying it exactly is another thing all together.
People like Shana can’t afford to let them get away with it, so I’m thankful to her to for letting them know it’s not ok.

Lol! Love the Buffy Vs Edward, finally something to help me erase all memory of the awfulness that was Twilight.

I love that they used footage of Robert Pattinson in Harry Potter so they could kill him! Awesome.

D’oh! I mean “You” not “yopu” Yopu? Who is yopu?

I remember when I worked at Glasson’s (I got the job because in my interview I told my interviewer what happened at the end of a Harry Potter book, she wanted to know and no one would tell her. not because I could actually dress myself haha.) we had a stock woman telling us about how the head designer flies to all the fashion shows so she “knows what next season’s styles” are. It made me hyper aware about how everyone copies everyone else – but there’s a big difference between blatantly copying and being “inspired by this season’s styles”. I hadn’t heard about the Diva thing, if I actually shopped there I wouldn’t again hah.

I think most designers realise that there are no original ideas and everyone copies everyone else. Designs get watered down and passed around.
But as you say blatantly copying is a different story altogether!

Rollasole needs to come to the US with a quickness. Such a great idea. And they’re actually pretty cute – I could see chucking the heels altogether and just starting the evening in them.
Loved the Transformers review. Have you seen the Michael Bay “facts” ? Michael Bay has 2 speeds – slow motion and on fire. http://blogs.chron.com/tubular/archives/2009/07/supernatural_wh.html
You’re killing me with the scone and pancakes photos! So much yum, and all I have in the fridge is beer and condiments.

Lol, slow and on fire! That’s great. I think you’ve linked to the wrong article though?
You’ve reminded me about pancakes again now. So hungry!
[Reply]
Oops! Sorry about that. Cut and paste FAIL!
Second time is the charm.

These are some great picks! All the food shots made my tummy rumble, even if they were made from Legos and Balloons.
The Buffy vs. Edward video made me giggle. Edward seems even more stalkerish in the video.
I absolutely loved the photographs of Emma Watson. I think she’s so awesome, even back in her dorky, awkward days. She’s just a neat gal.
