COMPETITION – Cupcakes and Mace Nameplate Fonts
The biggest jewellery seller in the Cupcakes and Mace shop is the nameplate necklace. Any name you like (up to 9 letters included in the price) in any colour from our range, and a choice from two chains for just $25 USD.
People love them, they love that they are completely customisable, and that we can cut a shape out of many of the letters for no extra charge. We’ve cut cupcakes, hearts, apples, a bird and a skull so far. The biggest problem with customising these nameplates is finding appropriate fonts, most of the flicks in the script type fonts are too thin to hold it all together during a bit of wear. Our current default font is Courier New (#1 below), it looks good and holds together really well. We let people choose their own fonts too, but we’ve figured that people don’t like having to find out what they want by themselves, it’s much preferable to be given a short list to choose from.

That’s where you come in. Have a look at the list below, and let me know your top 3 choices (in order of preference) in the comments. Your comment will get you in the draw to win your very own nameplate so make sure you use a valid email address! :D
Extra entries are available to anyone who spreads the word about the competition, just leave comment letting me know where you left the link.
The competition will close in 2 weeks on the 15th of July so get commenting.

My favourites are 5, 8, 1, and 3.

8 is my favourite (I don’t need an entry in the competition by the way, I don’t want to be greedy after last time!)

5, 3, 8! It’s tough choosing between 3 & 5 as my fav, but I figure a lot of people use Helvetica or something similar, but number 5 is a bit different!
Also, I’ll edit the interview post for you & link to here. Great comp! xxx

Number 3 is my favourite – I love the clean clean lines.
Second up is number 1 – as the original I associate it with Cupcakes and Mace, and it is halfway between my first and third choice.
Third up is number 5 – the cute, curvy serifs suit the cupcake aesthetic theme! and would be adorably dark in black acrylic with a nasty word instead of a name.

[...] +++ Win! Win! Win! You could grab your very own nameplate necklace from C&M, by entering their simple competition! [...]
My favorites are 1, 5, 3, and 8. Same ones as you, just a different order! :)

My favorite is #1. It’s just so clean yet cute. After that I like 3 and then 5.

My favourite font is 8, followed by 3 then 5.
I love the cupcake inside the letter – uber-adorable!
[Reply]
My top three are 1,8 & 4 :)
[Reply]
Definitely 1 then 3 then 4 – but really you know what they are all gorgeous I think! And very clever!
Oh & thanks for the scones lesson I always had this idea that scones were soooo horribly difficult to make but you make it seem simple & easy & fun!
[Reply]
Hehe, I might just have to try that. :p
[Reply]
5,4,7. I think im excluded from winning : )
[Reply]
I think it would be fair to call bias if you did win. We can make you a pretty necklace another time :p
[Reply]
1, 5 then 3.
woo i wanna win! :)
[Reply]
ooh!
1, 5, 8.
I am biased on 8 though because it looks like my handwriting. I love 3 though too.
[Reply]
8, 3, 1
but mostly just 8!!! it’s super cute!
[Reply]
5, 1, 7. In that order. 5 is so cool!
[Reply]
hmmm decisions, I like 1, 5 and 7 and 8 although that’s more than 3…but I like four…I’ll just throw that in..
[Reply]
I love 8, 1 and 7…
(i do love 5 as well, but the above are my favourite 3! hehe)
Such a great front – love the cut out cupcake too

My faves are 3, 1 and 8 – lovely stuff!!

I never ever win competitions, but methinks the prettiest ones are 1,5 and 3 fo’ shiz!

Number 3 is my favourite, it’s classic, bold and looks like it’ll hold together well. I also love numbers 5 and 8 as they’re both a bit different from the other nameplate necklace styles available at the moment, and I particularly like the “curlyness” of number 5 :)
[Reply]
This is so hard, you’re so right when you say “people don’t like having to find out what they want by themselves”, LOL. #1 is classic and I think there’d be an uproar if you got rid of it. Having said that, I like the following:
5 – because something about it looks sweet
3 – it’s nice and clean and a little more compact than 1
8 – I think it’s nice to have a ‘scripty’ option
[Reply]
The font really depends on what the word is and what kind of mood or aesthetic you want to bring to the piece. Each one of them evoke a different feeling.
That being said, my top choices in order are:
5
7
6

I would say that 3, 5 and 8 are my favorites :D
[Reply]
i like 4, 1, and 5 best. i think its important to offer a classic font, a script-ish one and then something fun. very cute, would love my own!!
[Reply]
3, 1 then 5. They’re all adorable in their own ways. 3 is bold and simple, 1 is kind of classic and 5 seems a bit kooky. Even though they’re all written in black here, I had to imagine them in pink to make my decision :D
[Reply]
I like number 1 and 5, I like that there are spaces between the letters, it makes them easier to read. Perhaps they would be easier to read in real form, though? And I would REALLY like 4 if it wasn’t italicised (I am really picky with my fonts sorry!)
[Reply]
5, 3, and 8. I’ve never been a fan of Courier New, unfortunately. =X
Btw, just stumbled across your site via Etsy and will defo be coming back :)
[Reply]
And that’s exactly why we need to find out what people are fans of. No need to apologise.
And yes, when the nameplates are 3D the small bits of spacing and intricacies are much more visable.
[Reply]
Great to hear Emma. Thanks!
[Reply]
In order of favorite : 5, 3, 8 ! 5 is adorable, 3 is clean & simple, and 8 just looks good!
[Reply]
3,5 & 8! ;)

1, 5, and 8.
1 is definitely my most favorite of the three. And I too love the cupcake in the ‘a’.

I just thought I should ask, why isn’t the nameplate necklace an option on your Etsy page? Is it because it’s strictly a custom thing? I went looking because I read this blog entry, but I think getting a personalised necklace with your name on it is awesome, and people who stumble across your Etsy page might not realise they have the option.
[Reply]
Hi Fiend. It is an option, the current listing is at http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27308619.
Not sure why you couldn’t see it.
[Reply]
7, 3, and 5! Definitely.

[...] to my calculations you have just over a day left to enter into the nameplate necklace competition. Thanks to everyone who has entered and let us know which fonts they like [...]
1, 3 & 6. I like to think that if I was a font, I’d be a cross between typewriter and helvetica. Cause that’s how I roll.
I love the way your jewellery is developing Kim!
[Reply]
My favorites are 1 and 3. They’re a good contrast to the embellishment of the cupcake-shaped hole – some of the other fonts are too busy to properly set it off. The Helvetica-vibe works well!

Spreading the love on Twitter!
jaka_merriman: Ack! I’ve not been paying proper attention! @MsConstantine has one more day on her nameplate necklace contest! http://bit.ly/nX0qq

Yum! Having just been treated to 2 lovely pieces by my best girl mate for my birthday, I’d have to enter for more pretties! (I’m a greedy girl sometimes).
I love them in this order:
3
5
1
Though I might reverse 5 and 3, depending on my mood.
[Reply]
O you got them! That’s great. :]
[Reply]
3, 5, then 1.
Awesome stuff… only just found it – will have to start saving to buy up!

I did, I did! I got them Monday and have already worn them both twice! :D
