Unexpected Side Effects of Becoming Self Employed

My creation
  • Mini panics when I suddenly think I’ve only got one day left in my weekend till I have to go back to my horrid workplace. Obviously working in a nasty office left deeper scars than I’d realised.
  • Finding out I’m a night owl and my body would rather sleep until 2pm and then stay awake till 3am than get up with everyone else.
  • Not feeling the need to feed my face constantly. I’m eating probably half of what I was eating when I was in the office. No more eating to cure the boredom, no more left over cake in the staffroom. I often have my first meal of the day at about 4pm now. (um, except for last week where I ate almost 3 blocks of chocolate, a box of popcorn, two ice creams, a bag of lollies, cheese and crackers, and fish and chips)
  • Becoming a bit of a recluse. I haven’t been leaving the house unless we’ve been invited out somewhere, so I often leave the house only once or twice a week. Many days I live in a dressing gown because I don’t see the point in getting dressed!
  • An obsession with the Gilmore Girls. Now that I have no office these ladies are my workmate replacements.
  • Wanting to/having the time to bake again.

And some expected side effects: losing the bags under my eyes, not having such dry skin due to air conditioning, being happy!

LOL! Do the exact same except for the 2nd (can’t stay up anymore…fall asleep at 10:30 – can do midnight tops) and 3rd (eat less cause I don’t quite like eating alone, but yeah I will eat junk by myself – ha prefer it actually – more for me!!!)

5th season free? WOOT!!! Those scratches are good for something! Enjoy – I’ll pop in some – more ironing to do today :)

I’ll let you know when I do an outfit post – prob Friday…I always feel awkward doing it (that looks funny, hope I spelt it right) then I post it up then feel like a dodo for doing so…then the I tell myself “hey other girls do one everyday”…then the cycle continues…

To be fair, I think that the Gilmores are an EXCELLENT replacement for dull workplace mates. But then again, I have a quite a few good ones here, so I’ll take my Gilmores AND my coworkers…

I do miss the less eating when I was self-working… it was nice to eat when I was hungry & have access to a fridge, them have to plan decent sized meals spaced 5 hours apart to get through the day…

Ugh ironing. I never iron, The Boy irons his own shirts each morning while I’m sound asleep.

Everyone loves outfit photos. And you’ve had an official request now so you have to do it. I subscribe to your blog so I see when you’ve posted something new automatically :D

Trying to plan meals for a day in advance let alone a week in advance is so annoying! I always failed and ended up spending an extra $50 on lunches each week.

I’m home-employed (not working for myself (yet)) and I’ve got all of these same lovely perks! Isn’t it great to not have to wake up until you want to, then eat ice cream for breakfast if you want, and not have to put on pants? Love it, love everything about it.

  6. Ms Constantine Says:

Ice cream makes me quite sick (so yea, twice in one week was very bad!) but substitute it for chocolate and yes! Totally!

PJs and a big fluffy dressing gown is SO much warmer in this Wellington winter than wearing real clothes. :D

eek a subscriber, how exciting!!! seriously??? I’m so happy :) OK, dork moment over – please don’t unsubscribe…can you do that?

  8. Ms Constantine Says:

O you’re so cute :p I could unsubscribe, but I’m not going to! I love your blog!
And did I tell you that I love the name, super clever!

  9. Poppy Says:

I still have nightmares about my last full time job (that I left a year and a half ago…)

I would LOVE to be self-employed, it would suit the hermit that deep down I really am.

  10. Charlie Says:

Sounds great – I totally agree with the night owl thing, but unfortunately my student life doesn’t allow for that and I have to get up early in the mornings still. Sigh, and probably will for the rest of my life, but I’m going to love my job which i guess will be okay :). Yay for baking!!

  11. Mermaid Says:

Oh my goodness I feel this. All of it.

  12. Ms Constantine Says:

It’s great to know that I’m not the only one who acts like this when left to their own devices. I read the “Quit your day job” series on Etsy and everyone talks about how they get up at 7am and have breakfast etc and go to bed at 11pm. :S I think most of these people have kids though.

    @Poppy – Do it!

@Charlie – If you get sick of getting up early in the morning there is always another way. Don’t forget that. :]
