District 9 – Review

PJ* goes back to his roots with the production of District 9 – a fantastic movie full of exploding aliens and humans.
The film is put together with a combination of documentary, security camera, and real time footage. It follows the story of Wikus, a human working for the MNU in Johannesburg, and seems to blatantly mimic the South African apartheid.
Do yourself a favour and don’t watch the trailers if you haven’t already seen them. I went in knowing nothing more than I was going to watch a movie about aliens living with humans, and I’m glad I didn’t know any more than that.
3.5/5
*Peter Jackson, everyone’s favourite Kiwi director/producer

I hadn’t even heard about this! It looks pretty good, I think I’ll go and see it.
I also didn’t know what to expect and pleasantly surprised. Ended up being a really good film :)
I didn’t know about it until the posters outside the theatre went up recently.
From what I’ve read they used a viral campaign for marketing, websites, and a protest at comic con etc. Pretty cool.
Didn’t love it, but I enjoyed it. I liked the fact that it was similar to apartheid, you could see how a race (in this case, aliens) could be made to look inferior through media portrayal etc. Very thought-provoking.
too late! seen the trailers several times! haha! and i was supposed to watch it tonight too but held off on it! :]

Such interesting look into racism, slavery and the workings of the government all mashed into one…I definitely recommend this movie..!!
