Pin All Your Hopes and Dreams
One of my favourite parts of my job is being able to spend large amounts of money on shiny things. I get to browse catalogues online and make informed decisions on whether the 6mm jumpring is better in 1mm thick wire or 0.9mm thick wire. And if 16mm wide ribbon will look better than 23mm wide ribbon.
It’s all good fun until you can’t find anything you’ve bought. I was forgetting what I already had and would spend too much time pawing through laser cuttings to see if we already had one in the colour requested. I’m a very visual person, I need to be able to see what tools and supplies I have at my disposal, and it makes sense to be able to find what you’re looking for at a glance rather than searching through a basket all the time.
I had the idea for this pin board quite a while ago. I bought the board and then it sat there doing nothing, like most of my projects for a very long time.
Finally the urge hit (another great thing about working for yourself, being able to do whatever you want when the mood strikes) and I pinned everything to the board. It’s so much easier to find things now! It’s not very pretty, but it does the trick. Maybe I’ll decorate it when the next mood strikes.
Have you got any tips for organising piles of stuff in a small apartment?
Have you entered the birthday competition yet? You have one day left!

Not very pretty?! I think it looks superb! That’s a great display :)
I do tupperwares for all my bead/craft stuff. Like for the beads, we get tackle boxes (like for fishing – with the little separators…) and I have tupperware boxes and labeled tins for things like pins… or paper goods…
The pin board is awesome. I’ve seen your designs on Etsy and was all: *droooool*
Whoa that looks awesome! So colourful!
I have lots of clear containers & shoe boxes housing stuff in my small space – luckily they’re all labelled or I wouldn’t be able to find anything quickly. ^__^
You’re very successful working for yourself :D what is your job doll? I feel I should know this I might have missed it in one of your entries… Do you make money from this website. That would be fantastic x
Pinboard looks so good!!!!!
I think it looks fabulous! I don’t really have any suggestions, you should see my sewing room – it is a perpetual mess with bits & bobs of fabric, leather, and pattern pieces strewn all over.
I guess I’m just not a fan of brown!
Heya, I don’t make any money from this site. I make it from my jewellery business on etsy, http://cupcakesandmace.etsy.com. Hence all the jewellery supplies I needed to find a home for!
oooh it looks awesome!!!
I really like this idea! While I have a fair amount of jewellery making stuff, I mostly have annoying art supplies that defy any kind of organisation. I like to keep my pencils in their original tins, and they’re usually different shapes and thicknesses. Then I have all my sketchbooks and paper stock, and that’s ALL over the place. I’m really feeling at a loss to even attempt thinking about organising it all without hundreds of dollars to spend on new racks and shelving!
You should paint the pin board, or put some nice wallpaper offcuts on it!
Seeing all of those bits and bobbins so neatly organised fills my anal-retentive heart with glee! I live in a ridiculously small space (9m2 student dorm) and am a huge believer in “a place for everything and everything in its place”. I always seem to have lots of papers, notebooks, and books lying around the place, so I love folders, files, and those magazine holders that come flat-packed and you fold into a box. But using wall space is one of the best ways to make the most of a small area – hooks and handles galore.
Great ideas. Definitely need prettifying.
First, sorry I’ve been MIA, missed you, missed your blog
This definitely works, just a suggestion if you’re going to “prettify” it…pick a background colour/design that won’t interfere with what’s in the baggies…I think though the cork is plain…everything else pops and let’s you know where it all is. Maybe just prettify the border…pick up some trim from a home store get them to cut 4 pieces to size and you can paint it, design it however you want…
Happy weekend, K!
Good thinking! My natural instinct is to go PINK PINK all the time PINK. But yea, would mess with the scheme. Even white would be better than cork.
(Nice to have you back! xx)
That’s awesome! I agree that working at home is great for being able to just do what you feel like doing but for me it’s not always a good thing, as I do non-work related things. My loverdover will ask what I wrote that day & I’ll respond, “Nothing, but I’ve organized all of our books by color!” Hee.
I manage to sit in front of the computer all day no problem. But that still doesn’t mean I do work all day. I get up late, and then find it hard to work when The Boys around, that’s why my posts get published in 4 in the morning. I usually don’t start on work stuff till midnight!
But the whole point of this was to have a better lifestyle, I don’t want an 8-5 job.
Have you watched “Everything is illuminated”? I just had a beautiful and tender flashback! I totally recommend the movie.
Btw, I had mine with the borders painted pink ^^
I don’t like the color of the board either but it’s sooooo useful!
mwah!
Aurora
Yes I have. Not in a long time though. It’s a lovely movie.
