Hier Und Jetzt – 15 November 2009
I’m reading: Son of a Witch; Bridget Jones’s Diary
Watched this week: Crank:High Voltage; Fracture; The Taking of Pelham 123; Surrogates; Made of Honour; Waiting; Semi Pro
Best line:
That dude looks like he has run into a back of a bus, his forehead to nose ratio is astounding.
- An anonymous commenter replying to an article stating Robert Pattinson will be coming to NZ to film next year.
I’m loving:
- The price tags at Woolworths. Under each price they list the equivalent cost per 100g or 1kg. It make price comparisons SO easy and makes the shopping experience so much nicer!
- Tiki shacks, gossiping like a teenager, hanging out with people who are generally in high spirits. I had a great weekend!
- The All Whites winning against Bahrain to gain entry into the World Cup for the first time since 1982. I’m not much of a sports fan but I know a lot of people are very excited about this including Mum and her partner. And anything that might steal some of the limelight from Rugby is ok by me!
- My new phone. Even if it was bought under less than ideal circumstances while facing life without a mobile for a couple of weeks. (see below)
- The Boy’s dad has agreed to sell us one of his old cars even though we turned him down when he first offered it to us. When we were up with him last weekend we got to use it and kinda fell in love. By then they’d decided to keep it for visitors to use but The Boy is both a mummy and daddy’s boy, and for once that’s a good thing!
I’m loathing:
- Dead phones. Mine suddenly died for no reason last week and Telecom workers seem to have no grasp on the Consumer Guarantees Act as they’ve refused a repair on it unless I pay. I can certainly try taking them to the disputes tribunal or the Commerce Commission but I absolutely hate conflict and am likely to cry if I have to confront anyone about my problems!
- If that wasn’t a bad enough start to the week the next day The Boy’s office found out they’ll be going down to 4 day weeks starting in a week and ending at the end of January. It seems while everyone else in the office could see his boss was being overly optimistic hiring 2 new staff his boss couldn’t. And now they’re 3 people overstaffed.
Goodbye holiday bonus, yearly pay rise, and $600 of pre holiday wages. - NZ Post. In general, but mostly when I have to claim money for something because it’s gone missing or arrived broken. I’ve put in a claim about 4 times so far and been unsuccessful every time! When something goes missing I have to provide the address, phone number, and email address of the person it was going to, but NZ Post refuses to contact the addressee by any means but post! ARGH get in the 21st century you dumb fucks!
- Realising that this decade is almost over and will soon be able to be referred to in the same manner we refer to the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Is there a question you’ve always wanted answered by an impartial male? I have one of those available for you! Submit your question (anonymously or leave your details) and The Boy will do his best to give his advice or opinion. Ask him about love, fashion, or what that seemingly snide comment really means.

Gossiping in the Tiki Shack was on my list of favourite things this weekend too!

The Boy is extremely cute! I think he’ll enjoy being part of Cupcakes and Mace. :]
I don’t think this decade has been named definitively although the best contender is the noughties. It sounds better than the two thousands! Maybe it should be the twenty hundreds.

So who puts in a claim when NZ post’s letter goes missing seeing as they can’t manage to use other forms of communication? -___- How frustrating. I share your mail woes!

Exactly my point! If the first package didn’t go through what makes you so sure your letter will go through. ARGH.
An email or phone call takes a few minutes instead of a few weeks!

Yeah I was thinking about the name too. The Zeros? Who knows :)

Ugh, Australia Post is just as lame! I’m sorry to hear about your Boy and his work, lovely, but I’m super excited to read his new answer column!

I hate NZ post – I loathe them…but apparently they are not as bad as the German postal service that my sister has to deal with (the parcel she has sent us has not arrived after nearly 2 months AND she has to resend it because they forgot to put postage on it and were going to make her pay for postage again!)
I just finished Wicked and I loved it – can’t wait to read the rest of the books…

I like posts like this giving a run down of the past week! Interesting to see a snapshot of what another blogger has been up to. I can’t decide if I should burden your boy with my love woes, haha!

Yes, please burden him! Or else Questions for The Boy may never actually happen. :[

Oh, how was Surrogates?! What kind of new phone did you get? I went to Parallel Imported on Sunday and oogled some of the iPhone knock offs. Particularly one of the knockoffs. WANT…so I can get it pre-pay of course. :D
ps – go as far as you can with the disputes tribunal. Enlist a sassy friend to see you through it. It’s not fair to get the short end of the stick. ):
Hope you have a fantastic week! xx

Surrogates was good, interesting concept!
I got a Nokia 3120, it’s pretty sweet, got internet access without wifi, a bunch of games, and is just quite nice. Only $200.
:[ This disputes thing is stressing me out. I really don’t want to go in to confront Telecom about it first, I hate talking to random unknowns in person as it is, but when I’m trying to be tough and get them to agree with me forget it! The Boy is refusing to do it for me too. :[

Hey,
Am SO with you on the awesome-ness of Woolworths’ tagging and the poo-ness of trying to get refunds/repairs and getting anything of use out of NZ Post complaints!
My suggestion for Telecom is go into their store with this printed off and point it out to the manager: http://www.consumer.org.nz/reports/consumer-guarantees-act/the-guarantees
Even highlight the relevant parts. Also, tell them you are quite happy to take your complaint further if necessary. If you point out the above things in a polite, but firm way, normally they will bow under the pressure, know they’ve messed up and bend over backwards to fix it. (This has worked wonders for me in the past).
And if that doesn’t work, let me know and I’ll get my workmates who report on the consumer round for a large metropolitan paper to see what they can do!
Sadly, I have no advice for NZ Post, I never got anywhere with them! Good luck though! xx

Thanks for that Rosie. I think a print out will take a bit of pressure off me! I’ve had some information sent through already but hadn’t thought of taking it in with me. :]

Didn’t even realise it was the end of the decade. Does 2010 get included in this decade or is the start of a new one?

2010 is a brand new one! Crazy!

I too had problems with NZ Post last year. They lost a package we sent to America over christmas and because we’d followed their cashier’s advice and put down $250 as insurance (I only had a value in US dollars and he couldn’t be bothered to go through the effort to convert it for me) when we went to claim reimbursment for the lost package it turned out to be worth $261NZ, they refused to pay on the grounds we should have brought more insurance and then accused me of LYING to them.
I wrote an official complaint letter to NZ Post, to no avail, and then wrote another letter to the Ombudsman. This worked, and we were reimbursed the full cost of our package and given an apology from NZ Post. Try the Ombudsman (hell, I can’t remember how to spell that) if you’re having trouble – they really were gold.
