One of the “new me” outfits I purchased this weekend just gone. The shopping trip was great, we spent from about 12.30pm till 5.30 pm at the mall in Lower Hutt scouring the chain stores and managed to score some good sale items.
I am particularly in love with my new check dress from Portmans. I’ve had my eye on it for a while so when I saw that it was $50 off I was stoked. It’s sleeveless and has a huge skirt that is able to be held up to my sides making a semi circle. It’s polyester and reminds me of raincoat material so it holds shapes really well and swooshes when I walk. It’s awesome. But you’ll have to wait for another day to see it.
There is still a lot more shopping to be done, I hope that the city, and in particular Cuba St, will hold some cute stuff. I see a lot more skirts in my future.
What I’m wearing
- Crazy eyes – Courtesy of my mother
- Knobbly knees – Courtesy of my mother
- White skin – Courtesy of my mother
- Black shirt dress – Jacqui E
I plan on changing the buttons on this dress to something more eye catching. Don’t count on it happening anytime soon though.
- Pink belt – Supre
- Black knee high socks with lace detail – Farmers
- Sneakers – Babycham
As always you can click on the photos to see just how much the wind storm messed my hair.

Super Summer Starter – Yep, it was amazing. Beautiful weather followed by a four day working week.

Angels and Demons – By Dan Brown. I started reading this book while camping and I’m almost finished, I’ve got the added distraction of work, internet and TV back in the real world though. If you liked The Da Vinchi Code then you’ll probably like this one. It may seem like you’ve read it all before though, it is VERY similar to The Da Vinchi Code. Religious guy is killed, Robert Langdon is called in as specialist and helps daughter of dead guy to save the world.

Sales – It’s that crazy time of year again. An emailed voucher for Glassons got me the bright blue purse for 30% off. My camera completely refused to take a photo to indicate its true colour, it’s bright 80s style blue. Awesome.
The necklaces were cheap to begin with but I’m not going to complain about 50% off! The plain black one is a long strand of star beads :D

Like my dance?
Fluffy skirts – After feeling like a slob in grey pants and a faded t-shirt yesterday I decided today had to be different. You’ll have to excuse everything from the shoulders up, the photos were taken after work and even though it was a short work week it feels like I’ve been dehydrating in my air conditioned office forever. I was also very bored and therefore falling asleep, it was beginning to feel like poking my eyes out with sticks would be a good option because at least then I’d get to take a trip to the hospital.
It’s amazing what a fluffy skirt can do to perk up your day and have everyone commenting!
Also note the bag from above, you can see the colour a lot better in these photos. I swapped the provided strap for a pink ribbon too :D
- Star bead necklace – Bling
- Tails style blazer – Portmans
- Misery t-shirt
- Blue purse – Glassons
- Silk check skirt with netting petticoat – Portmans
- Black over the knee socks folded down
- Sneakers – Babycham
Summer – I’ve always said that winter is my favourite season, mostly because it means I don’t get too hot or burnt. But with summer gradually returning I’m changing my mind. If I can see this from my bedroom window between 8 and 8.30pm what do I really have to complain about?
Can’t beat Wellington on a sunny day.

Although the outcome of the New Zealand General Election on Saturday was not what I desired, consensus among friends is that if we had the choice to change the outcome, but in order to do so America had to give up Obama and have McCain, there’s no way we would do it!
Obama benefits everyone and New Zealand is pretty centre aligned anyway with the two main parties barely left and right of centre.
I’ve been pretty disgusted with all of the recent comments left on Stuff in relation to election articles. Right leaning citizens accusing lefties of having no brain, accusing beneficiaries of being lazy dole bludgers who don’t deserve to be able to vote! It makes me sick, I didn’t realise we had such creeps here.
Anyway, this is what I wore to vote
- V neck t-shirt – Ezibuy
- Satin skirt – Country road
- Bag – Thrifted
- Boots – Demonia, Gravel 20
After voting I headed to my BFF Benhi’s to make cupcakes. The master plan was to copy Ems naughty penis cupcakes, but in brown instead of white to honour Obama. We were rather tipsy (ahem, drunk) when we came up with the plan! But we stuck with it…(stop scrolling now if you are at work or somewhere where it would be equally embarrassing to have a big penis made entirely of icing on your screen)
Obama, Made Of America

Note the extra large penis. That’s one stereotype I’m assuming black men don’t mind.

Ok, I’ll admit right off the bat that I suck at using a camera.
I am no way near mastering the art of taking photos of myself and the boy does not seem to know that when I ask him to take a photo of what I’m wearing I want it
a) to look good
and
b) to be a shot from head to toe, not head to waist
That said, I have a couple of photos to share from my work function at the Wellesley on Saturday night. I was able to convince myself to buy the shiny (which I now know is silk) skirt from Portmans. It got lots of compliments.
Excuse the blurriness, bad lighting, and stunned mullet looks. A drunk boyfriend does not a good cameraman make.
I’m wearing:
- Black sheer frill top from Jayjays – $35
- Red singlet from Glassons (about 8 years ago)
- Checked skirt from Portmans – $110
- Black stockings from Farmers – $5
- Black knee high lace top ribbed socks from farmer – $15
- Brogue heels from the Number 1 Shoe Warehouse – $30

My Misery shirts arrived on Friday.
They are even better than the ones I already own.
Generally I find it hard to find good shirts to wear because as the pants sit lower on the waist the shirts don’t tend to get any longer to cover up my hips.
These shirts though are a much more feminine cut. The neck is wider and they are longer! They actually sit well over my belt line even on the lowest of low jeans I own.
And as I already said I saved about $25-$30 on each of the shirts.
I’m going to be sad to see Misery Boutique gone.
Where am I going to find good black clothes now?
26.03.2008
My beloved Misery Boutique (Misery is an Auckland based artist) is closing down and soon the Misery clothing label will be no more. This sucks but it does mean they’ve reprinted some earlier designs and you can grab them before mid April for pretty cheap.
I just ordered the Lil Gothie and Melancholy Sisters T-shirts, a Miss Muffet sticker and a Wilma patch to add to my collection. The best part is the t-shirts were only $30 each. The last one I bought was $60 instore!
These should arrive soon, well within the next two weeks.
Yay
You can now find Misery at Miseryland! It’s totally cute.

Until I learn to take photos of myself or my boyfriend gets better at it these photos are gonna be crap…
You’ll get the idea. (I’m not really grimacing, I’m squinting. Wellington is having beautiful weather.)

This is:
Black headband with red polka dots
Cupcake necklace
Black shirt - Switch
Red and white long sweat singlet – Country Road
Black pants - Lost
Black shoes with white polka dots and bows
